My Auntie Anne’s #PretzelPro Trip

A couple of months ago I was invited as one of ten ambassadors to visit Lancaster, Pennsylvania and the headquarters of Auntie Anne’s Pretzels

When we arrived, the president and Chief Operating Officer Bill Dunn, was waiting for us outside, and as he walked us through the front doors, the entire staff was standing in the foyer clapping for our group. It was a big surprise, and the warm and family-like company environment was a wonderful thing to experience.

After that genial welcome, we began a day at ‘Pretzel University’ where we heard fun stories about how Auntie Anne’s Pretzels began, and we saw little bits of history scattered throughout the building.

This isn’t history, but who doesn’t love a pretzel-themed art collection?

We talked pretzels, we twisted pretzels, we baked pretzels and most assuredly, we ate pretzels!

We even met Auntie Anne Beiler herself! That was the absolute best part of the whole event because it was a total surprise. She was engaging, gracious and oh, so friendly.

Not to mention that the gal can twist a mean pretzel!

You know who can’t? Me.

You see there’s a special twist technique they use, and I My pretzels looked a hot mess. So I had to make them the “baby” way – by twisting the dough on top of a pretzel pattern on the counter. Because I’m five years old.

I watched very carefully as the experts showed us how to make pretzels the Auntie Anne’s way. They rolled out a length of dough, lifted it up in the air and with a magical  twist of the wrist, that rope of dough was in a pretzel shape. (Beats me how they do it.)

She’s a pretzel ninja, I swear.

They take a quick dip in a baking soda solution, get a sprinkling of salt and then they’re popped into the oven where they’re baked into these lovelies.

Then they get flipped over and dunked into a bath of buttery goodness.

I learned so much about the art of pretzel baking and what makes Auntie Anne’s pretzels so delicious. I even graduated from Pretzel University!
